Elon Musk threatens to buy MSNBC. Joe Rogan chimed in with ideas, too.

Elon Musk – the proud owner of the website formerly known as Twitter – has once again threatened to buy something he doesn’t like. This time, Musk threatened to buy left-leaning MSNBC.

In big news for the media industry, Comcast announced this week that it intends to spin off its cable companies, including MSNBC. That’s what led Musk to throw in his two cents about the news channel.

As things often go in this political environment, the situation started with a bang, this time from Donald Trump Jr.

“Hey @elonmusk I have the funniest idea ever!!!” Trump Jr. posted to X, responding to a meme saying MSNBC might be for sale.

Musk, not one to miss an opportunity to travel, replied: “How much does it cost?”

Now, to be clear, there is no indication that MSNBC is actually being sold. Instead, the plan is for Comcast to create a new company, including brands like USA, Oxygen, E!, SYFY, Golf Channel, CNBC, Rotten Tomatoes, and Fandango. But that didn’t stop Musk, Trump Jr., and other good friends from buying into the idea.

Uber-famous broadcaster Joe Rogan responded, for example: “If you buy MSNBC I’d love Rachael Maddow’s job. I’d wear the same dress and glasses, and I’d tell the same lies.”

Rightwing broadcaster Tim Pool, meanwhile, wrote: “Alex jones hosting would be a very happy outcome.” Jones’ conspiracy site Infowars, of course, was recently purchased by The Onion.

This all sounds like a big joke from Musk. And it probably is. But Musk’s purchase of Twitter turned out to be a joke, too — and we all know how that ended.
