Edgar Berlanga Vs. Gabe Rosado May Be In February In Puerto Rico

Edgar Berlanga is reportedly in talks with veteran Gabe Rosado to headline a fight in February 2025 in Puerto Rico.

Promoter Eddie Hearn is reported to have one fight left in his contract with Berlanga. He hinted that Berlanga might fight in Puerto Rico or New York against a top-tier opponent.

Hearn’s decision to allow Berlanga to fight Rosado in the final fight of his contract with Matchroom shows that he is interested in re-signing him and wants to invest in his career to build a star. There are different levels of stars in boxing.

There are fighters who are stars because they beat the best and are respected as world champions. Then there are fighters who are superstars based on their popularity, and they don’t have world titles. Berlanga fits that category. He is an East Coast star.

If Hearn wasn’t willing to keep Berlanga with Matchroom, he wouldn’t have allowed him to use the last fight of his contract against Rosado.

Gabe Rosado, 38, would fit the description of a playmaker. Rosado has lost six of his last eight fights dating back to 2019. That’s not very good, but this would be good for Berlanga, Brooklyn, New York. He can’t fight his rival because he is too valuable.

Thaboxingvoice reports that the fight of Berlanga (22-1, 17 KOs) vs. Rosado (26-17-1, 17 KOs) is in talks. This will boost the 27-year-old Berlanga’s confidence and get him back to winning ways following his 12-round decision loss to joint super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez on September 14.

Berlanga has been celebrating his loss, enjoying a long walk and a shot against Canel, 34. There’s not much to celebrate other than Berlanga getting a big payday. The points are:

– 117-110
– 118-109
– 118-109

Canelo seemed to be playing with Berlanga, taking him out with his fists and not wanting to kill to get him out. Berlanga looked huge in the ring against Canelo, and reportedly rehydrated to 193 lbs for the fight.

Gabe Rosado’s last eight fights:

– Bektemir Melikuziev: UD 10 loss
– Ali Akhmedov: UD 10 losses
– Shane Mosley Jr: MD 10 losses
– Jaime Munguia: UD 12 losses
– Bektemir Melikuziev: KO 3 win
– Daniel Jacobs: SD 12 losses
– Humberto Gutierrez Ochoa: UD 10 wins
– Maciej Sulęcki: UD 10 losses
