Duolingo now offers a portable piano for its music lessons

Duolingo, best known for its language learning app, has teamed up with music brand Loog to offer a portable piano that’s perfect for beginners. The $249 Loog x Duolingo Piano is meant to complement Duolingo’s similarly advanced music course launched last year.

The keyboard is a hybrid version of the portable digital piano that Loog launched on Kickstarter last year, featuring an almost identical wooden design, 37 keys, and a volume knob. Beyond the green color there are more aesthetic differences. The knob on the Duolingo version is a simple wooden finish, and it comes with a matching phone stand so you can follow the company’s music lessons as you play, for example.

The most notable feature shared by both models are velocity-sensitive keys that allow dynamics, meaning that the volume output is adjusted depending on how hard or softly the keys are pressed.

The Loog x Duolingo Piano is 18.9-inches (480.8mm) long and weighs 3.64 pounds (1.65kg), has built-in stereo speakers and a rechargeable battery that lasts 8 hours on a full charge. There’s also an octave shifter and pedal support ports on the back of the device, a USB-C jack for charging and MIDI transfer, and a 3.5mm headphone jack to keep everyone in the house sane while practicing.

Duolingo’s music course only offers piano lessons at the moment, and we will work with them anywhere piano – not just a new Loog collaboration. The Loog x Duolingo Piano ships with flashcards that are perfect for beginners, and the dynamic capabilities make it great to have a piano that’s small enough to hide in a closet when not in use.
