Delhi CM Atishi: Plan to give Rs 1,000 to Delhi women to be rolled out in 10-15 days
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Friday announced that the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana, to provide monthly assistance of Rs 1,000 to women in the city, will be rolled out in the next 10-15 days as the government works on the registration process. Atishi said before the end of this fiscal year — March 31, 2025 — women will receive one or two installments under the program.
AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal announced the launch of the scheme on Thursday and promised that the amount will be increased to Rs 2,100 if his party returns to power.
At a press conference here, Atishi said the program is a fulfillment of the government’s promise to empower women.
“We have kept our promise to provide assistance of Rs 1,000 to women. Despite all the efforts of the opposition parties to prevent this program, we have successfully ensured that it starts,” he said.
The program aims to provide financial independence to women, ensuring that they do not have to depend on family members for their basic needs, he added.
In terms of eligibility, Atishi explained that full-time government employees, women who paid tax in the previous financial year and those receiving any form of pension will not be eligible to benefit.
Talking about other measures taken by the AAP government to improve women, Atishi highlighted the improved quality of education in public schools, which are mostly attended by girls, and ensuring equal opportunities for education.
He also mentioned the provision of free health care through Mohalla clinics, which allows women to receive treatment without financial problems.
In addition, the government provides free buses for women, which helps them to travel easily to education, jobs, or to look for jobs, he said.
In the race for the upcoming Delhi elections, AAP is fighting for the third consecutive term, having won 62 out of 70 seats in the last election.
