Decline of X’s user base: The platform is expected to lose millions of users by 2025
By now, you’ve probably heard all about the post-election exodus of Elon Musk’s X, formerly known as Twitter.
Users on X, which Musk called “your everything app,” were running away from the platform. The fallout from the election season and Musk’s support for Donald Trump has resulted in a flood of misinformation and toxic rhetoric on the platform being pushed into users’ feeds. As a result, Bluesky’s distinctive X suddenly appeared increase in user registration and daily active users.
This can be seen as a dimming of X. It may be seen as a temporary reaction to the election result. However, new data points to X’s woes being far greater than the post-election backlash.
Musk’s X has been losing users even before the election. And, according to the current trajectory, millions of X users are ready to go next year as well.
X’s election day traffic was a flash in the pan
Since the days of being called Twitter, X has seen a huge increase in traffic and daily active users based on major current events. Elections, especially US Presidential elections are major traffic drivers for X.
