Costco issues recalls for frozen waffles, freeze-dried meat over listeria concerns

Frozen waffles and freeze-dried meats sold at Costco are being recalled, making them the latest products to come under fire for listeria concerns.
On Tuesday, TreeHouse Foods announced the expansion of a voluntary recall of “all products produced in the same location and still alive on the shelf.” The recalled product, Krusteaz Belgian Waffles 24ct, was sold at Costco between Oct. 13, 2023 and Oct. 21, 2024.
On the same day, the food supplier also issued a recall-net notice affecting products “sold in many stores,” listing at least nine other retailers.
“Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal illness in young children, the frail or elderly, and others with weakened immune systems,” the TreeHouse Foods statement reads. headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. The recalled products are “distributed in all states and territories within the United States and Canada and are packaged in a variety of ways,” TreeHouse Foods said, noting that consumers and retailers can identify UPC-affected products on the back of the box, lot. code and best date.
Consumers who find recalled products in their refrigerator must discard them or return them to the place of purchase for a credit. At this time, TreeHouse Foods says “there have been no confirmed reports of illness linked to the recalled products.”

The second product sold by Costco to be recalled is Nutristore Freeze Dried Deluxe Meat Variety #10 Cans, 12 count “due to potential Listeria contamination in chicken provided by one of our suppliers,” the company said in a statement.
Consumers with leftover cans of chicken are advised not to eat them, but instead return them for a full refund.
