Costco cold medicine recalled due to possible ‘contamination’

Costco-brand cold and flu medicine has been pulled from the shelves “due to possible foreign material contamination.”

A notice shared on the giant’s website says the recall of Kirkland Signature Severe Cold & Flu Plus Congestion involves item number #1729556 with area code P140082, which was sold in select Midwest and Southeast locations.

“Out of an abundance of caution, LNK has initiated a recall of erroneous releases and shipments of certain area codes that have been rejected due to foreign material contamination,” the statement read.

The affected drug was purchased by customers between Oct. 30 and Nov. 30, 2024.

Last month, 8,640 boxes of Kirkland Severe Cold & Flu Plus Congestion Day and Night pack recalled by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) because of an oral phenylephrine ingredient deemed “ineffective” as a nasal decongestant following “extensive review.”

“This chemical appears to be ineffective against colds and flu in its oral form, except in doses that are cardiotoxic and can lead to strokes, arrhythmias and high blood pressure,“Dr. Marc Siegel, senior medical analyst for Fox News, said.
