Cooper Koch’s Monsters ‘Standing with Erik, Lyle Menendez After a setback

Payton Koch shared photos on Thursday, September 19, of Cooper, 28, saying, writing on Instagram, “You’ve never felt so proud of someone else. I love you so much and I’m so happy for you.”
In response, some fans took to the comments section to express their issues with the series since Cooper doesn’t have any social media accounts. One person specifically asked how Netflix portrayed Erik, 53, and Lyle Menendez.
“Cooper’s audacity to have pictures of Erik all over the screen like a shrine when he’s participating in a show dragging his name through the mud,” the comment read. “Is there anyone in this show who has no morals? We, in the community of Menendez supporters and the community of torture survivors, are appalled by this display. They were completely shocked.”

Payton assured those frustrated by the monsters that Cooper addressed the issue with respect for the Menendez brothers.
“Hello! I won’t speak for cooperation, but I will say that you care deeply about the boys and stand with them and all the victims of abuse,” Payton wrote before referring to the episode of Cooper’s solo game. “He’s done everything he can to make sure their stories of abuse are seen on screen and I think in episode 5, it’s very clear where he stands. The actors are only vessels for the show’s writers/producers.”
The monsters, which premiered Thursday, surround Lyle (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) and Erik (Koch), who were convicted of murdering their parents, José, in 1989 (Javier Bardem) and Kitty (Chloe Sevigny). The show initially explores the brothers’ perspective on how José and Kitty’s alleged physical, emotional and sexual abuse led to their parents’ murder. The second half of the season, however, turns the narrative around and raises questions about whether Lyle, 56, and Erik’s claims are false.
“Any telling of true stories will be difficult, but please trust me when I say that you care about them and their story. ❤️🩹,” Payton continued. “I understand you well and I understand you. I’m glad you got to see Erik in episode 5 and I can only hope that people’s opinions have changed to sympathize with the boys, even though the last few episodes didn’t portray it in the best light. Thank you for sharing and know you are not alone in how you feel 🫶🏼.”

Payton’s understanding comes later Variety confirmed that Cooper visited the Richard J. Donovan Correctional facility with Kim Kardashian on Saturday, September 21, to give a talk about prison reform to inmates, including Lyle and Erik.
Erik talked about it Monsters after one day it was released.
“I believed we had moved beyond the lies and hurtful portrayals of the actor Lyle, creating an image of Lyle that focused on the bad will and dishonesty prevalent on the show,” read Erik’s statement shared on Lyle’s Facebook page. “I believe that they did this on purpose. With a heavy heart I say, I believe that Ryan Murphy cannot be ignorant and inaccurate about the facts of our lives to do this without malicious intent. “

Erik was not happy to hear how he and Lyle appeared, adding, “It saddens me to know that Netflix’s dishonest portrayal of the tragedies surrounding our crime has taken the painful truths back — back in the day. the prosecutor built a story based on the belief system that men were not sexually abused, and that men deal with the trauma of rape in a different way than women. Those vile lies have been disrupted and exposed by countless brave victims over the past two decades who have come forward in their shame and bravely spoken out.”
He continued: “Murphy now shapes his horrific narrative with ugly and shocking images of Lyle and I’s characters and depressing slander. Is the truth not enough?”
