A funny thing happens when you watch enough horror movies: ironically, it becomes harder to find the movie indeed he scares you. That’s because very few spooky movies have original ideas behind them, and too many modern horror films disappear into a self-congratulatory miasma of Whedonesque references and jokes. Luckily, there’s one scary old monster you can stream for free: Getting downnow available on Tubi.
Descent of Fear
Even at terrifying levels, Getting down has a structured history, focusing on the bad luck of a group of women who decide to hike the Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina. The trip might just be a distraction for our main character from the grief she’s still dealing with over the loss of her husband and daughter last year, but things go awry when everyone ends up in an unknown cave system. But everyone soon has more than trauma and loss to worry about when they are attacked by terrifying goblin-like creatures waiting to kill anything they can get their claws on.
Part of what you do Getting down what is interesting as a horror movie is that (except for the scary “crawlers”) all the characters are played by women. This includes Shauna Macdonald (best known for the TV show Spooks) and Natalie Mendoza (best known for the TV show Hotel Babylon). The film also stars Alex Reid (previously known for the TV show Ultimate Force), MyAnna Buring (best known for appearing in the Twilight films and A witch series).
From a box office perspective, Getting down it’s one of those brilliant movies that was made on a small budget and delivered (compared to its cost) a huge profit. The film was produced on a budget of around £3.5 million (or a little over $4.3 million) and brought in a monster $57.1 million at the box office. This was enough to warrant a sequel, though Descending 2 ended up being a critical and commercial flop.
Fortunately, the original film is loved by critics and audiences alike. In Rotten Tomatoes, Getting down it has a critical rating of 87 percent, with critics generally praising the movie’s strong performance and claustrophobic feel. With Popcornmeter, the movie also has an audience rating of 76 percent, proving that this isn’t one of those horror movies that critics and audiences love despite it (like all other high-profile “horror” movies).
Difficult Night Dreams
I loved myself Getting down for many of the same reasons…the all-female cast may sound like they’re acting together, but it serves to set this film apart from other horror films (like director Neil Marshall’s previous film. Dog Soldiers). Throughout the film, the characters feel like true friends whose relationship is constantly tested by the strange situation they find themselves in. And, even though these aren’t household names, each actor is seen in a unique way thanks to the actors’ artistic performances. .
But the the original reason to watch Getting down that it’s truly terrifying and manages to deliver visceral horror by simply refining a few classic horror formulas into something that feels exciting and fresh. We have trapped letters, but in a cave in the mountains there is a house in the forest; we have monsters like Gollum’s third cousin, but they are treated with deadly seriousness. Throw in a shocking beginning and a bleak ending (especially in the unrated version) and you have a movie that’s guaranteed to haunt you…one that we wouldn’t really recommend you try to watch before bed unless you’re ready for something else. seriously nightmares.
