In video footage captured by fans attending the band’s show in Melbourne, Australia, on Sunday, November 3, Martin, 47, was seen backing off the stage at Marvel Stadium when he accidentally fell through a trap door.
Various videos captured the moment, including the singer, dressed in a blue shirt and pants, walking backwards as he began to read the fan signs he could detect in the audience.
When Martin’s foot reached the opening, his entire body seemed to run towards the underground before a member of the stage crew was able to catch Martin, preventing him from being seriously injured. Martin’s arms also reached the ground, which contributed to his break.

“That, uh, was unplanned, thanks for holding me,” Martin told a staff member into his microphone before quickly easing himself up and climbing a short flight of stairs back to the stage. “Thank you, guys, you are holy.”
The lead singer then eased things up, telling fans that “it’s probably going to be a YouTube moment.”
Coldplay’s Southern Hemisphere tour is expected to go ahead despite being almost postponed, with concerts scheduled in Sydney before the band departs the country for a series of shows in New Zealand.
Martin’s fall comes later Olivia Rodrigo suffered a fall from a trap door himself last month while performing in the same Australian city.

Rodrigo, 21, was running across the stage at the Rod Laver Arena on October 14 when he fell backwards and fell through a trap door. While Martin kept appearing during his scene, Rodrigo disappeared completely, returning to the stage to tell his fans that it was good to keep performing. “Oh my God, that was fun! I’m fine,” he shouted to the crowd at the time. “Sometimes there is a hole in the stage. Okay!”
Despite the mishap on stage, Coldplay’s touring schedule has brought great success in recent months.
