Chase Aeroplan Credit Card: Current welcome bonus

The Aeroplan® Credit Card from Chase is a premium airline credit card that offers cardholders a consistent low annual fee.

Currently, the card offers its best bonus ever; however, it comes with a few drawbacks, which I will explore below.

And before you think that the Aeroplan Card has nothing to offer if you don’t live in Canada, understand that this loyalty program can be very valuable.

Let’s take a look at the current Aeroplan Card welcome bonus and analyze its value.

Aeroplan Credit Card welcome offer

Currently, the $95 annual Aeroplan Credit Card offers new cardholders the opportunity to earn 75,000 points after spending $4,000 in purchases in the first three months after account opening, and an additional 25,000 bonus points after spending $20,000 in purchases first of all. 12 months.

The typical offer for this card is 50,000-60,000 points, so anything from 70,000 points and above should be considered.

TPG rates for September 2024 peg Aeroplan points at 1.5 cents each, making this welcome offer worth up to $1,500.

A MAN OF NOTES

Keep in mind that this card is subject to Chase’s 5/24 rule, which means it’s unlikely to be approved if you’ve been approved for five or more cards in the past 24 months, regardless of issuer.

But if you qualify, check out our ideas to help you quickly meet the minimum spending requirement, including prepaying taxes, insurance, housing or mortgages to help you maximize this bonus. You can use this card to make a down payment on a new car or buy points or miles.

Although meeting the $20,000 spending requirement is not easy, most people should be able to do it within the 12 months provided by this welcome offer. I always recommend that you complete the spending requirement as much as possible as soon as possible, in case any inconvenience sets you back (like returning purchases).

That said, I never recommend buying what you wouldn’t do just to beat the welcome bonus requirement.

Earnings rate for the Aeroplan Credit Card

The Aeroplan Credit Card is worth more than just a welcome bonus. The card benefits most in the spending categories, earning points in the following amounts:

  • 3 points per dollar on purchases made directly with Air Canada
  • 3 points per dollar spent on groceries
  • 3 points per dollar on dining (includes checkout and eligible delivery services)
  • 1 point per dollar spent on other purchases

Additionally, cardholders will receive a 500 bonus point for every $2,000 spent on the card in a calendar month, up to 1,500 bonus points per month. This is a great benefit while working towards the maximum spend requirement for this card’s welcome offer.

Key benefits of the Aeroplan Credit Card

Beyond the points you can earn, the Aeroplan Card offers several interesting benefits:

  • Aeroplan 25K default status for the year you open the card and the following calendar year
  • Automatic Star Alliance Silver elite status, with access to priority and waiting lists, as long as you have Aeroplan 25K status
  • Free first checked bag on Air Canada flights, along with up to eight companions on your same booking
  • Spend $15,000 a year on the card to maintain 25K status or spend $50,000 a year to get a one-tier status upgrade
  • A statement credit of up to $100 (up to $120 starting Oct. 1) for a Global Entry, TSA PreCheck or Nexus application every four years
  • Travel protection, such as trip cancellation and disruption insurance, baggage delay insurance, travel delay reimbursement, car rental insurance and roadside assistance.
  • World Elite Mastercard benefits, including 24/7 concierge service, access to the Mastercard Priceless® experience, daily discounts and rebates and more.
  • Use points at a rate of 1.25 cents each to pay for travel purchases made on the card – not just Air Canada or flights – or to pay the card’s annual fee with Pay Yourself Back (no limit on the number of points that can be used December 31, 2024)
  • There are no foreign transaction fees

Bottom line

The Aeroplan Credit Card is one of the hardest working airline credit cards on the market. Not only does it offer automatic elite status to new cardholders, but it also earns points faster and offers great day-of-travel benefits, including statement credit for TSA PreCheck, Global Entry or Nexus membership. You get all that for an annual fee of $95.

Aeroplan points are some of the most valuable out there and the program has over 50 airline partners, making it one of the most versatile currencies out there.
