Chaos breaks out at a Turkish council meeting

A meeting between Turkish officials sparked chaos as tensions flared amid disagreements over the cost of celebrations honoring the country’s creation, at a time of economic hardship.

The Ankara Metropolitan Municipality has released 69 million Turkish lira, equivalent to two million dollars, for a concert featuring singer Ebru Gündeş in the October 29 Republic Day celebration, according to media reports.

Another 71 million lira was set aside to play the rock band Mor ve Ötesi, which fueled critics’ questions.

Lawmakers exchanged heated words, with some saying others don’t get along with ordinary citizens, Newsweek reported.
