Celebrate 10 years of the Perfect Horror Movie on Tubi
By Chris Snellgrove | Published
I’m a huge horror fan, but there are two things that usually stop me from checking out a horror movie: bad reviews and bad covers. Unfortunately, in 2015 The last girl it suffers from both, which is why I’ve been ignoring the movie no matter how many times my various algorithms throw it in my face. I finally got around to watching this movie for free on Tubi, and I’m happy to report that, despite what the haters say, this is almost complete horror movie.
Final Girl Cast Ubama Iso
The cast of The last girl it’s soft, but it has some great names in it, including Abigail Breslin (well known Little Miss Sunshine) as the last respectable girl and Wes Bentley (well known American beauty again A star) as his no-nonsense coach. He’s trained by a mysterious organization that gives him James Bond-level abilities to help him kill bad guys. In this movie, the bad guys in question are a quartet of murderous guys led by a charismatic sociopath (Alexander Ludvig, best known for The Hunger Games as well as The Vikings TV show).
Although it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, I really liked it The last girl with its weak narration, including the fact that we don’t get many precise details about who this mysterious organization is, what its purpose is, or even the exact year in which this part of the era took place. It’s a “play, don’t tell” horror movie, and that’s deserved thanks to director Tyler Shields. Shields is actually a photographer by trade, and to his credit, he frames the entire film in a signature style, which finds a balance between the extreme art of Zack Snyder and the arthouse minimalism of Jim Jarmusch.
Buffy Fans Take Notice
If you like horror movies, you may enjoy how The last girl It defies expectations of a good culture Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The bad guys are a quartet of young assassins with a sadistic idea that involves picking an unsuspecting target, taking him to the woods, and revealing their plan to hunt him down and kill him while wearing tuxedos. They intend Breslin’s character to be their next target, not knowing that he has spent his entire life training to kill these types of scumbags in the most brutal creative ways.
The film is created in a similar way, but that can be hard to see unless you look past its trope-y design. It’s basically a classic revenge story with the twist that the would-be victim is ready to turn the tables, a bit like what you’d get if Buffy Summers hunted monsters that were human rather than immortal. Despite the overly familiar tropes on display, this movie’s dialogue is brilliant, the cinematography is stunning, and the kills are both unpredictable and satisfying, making this one film more than the sum of its trope-y parts.
Not enough reviews
Unfortunately, not everyone appreciated it The last girl most likely when it comes out (first with a limited theatrical release and then with video on demand). On Rotten Tomatoes, the film currently has a critical score of 25%, despite only coming from 12 critics. And while every fanboy likes to say that critics have ruined their favorite movies, this is one case where most critics were actually wrong, complaining about things like the basic plot and the overly violent film. What did they expect from a fear the movie?
That is true The last girl I won’t bore you with the complex plot of a Chris Nolan film, but I argue that the best slasher films are those that keep the classic formula of films like Friday the 13th while still managing to surprise us with unexpected twists and turns. That’s exactly it The last girl does: it takes the approach of hunting and killing unsuspecting victims in the forest but turns those victims into potential victims. The result is an unusual horror movie where we can get rid of a brutal killer while he is busy killing other very bad people.
Will you find The last girl as I do, or will you agree with the critics that this artsy slasher effort fails to strike a cinematic chord? The only way to find out is to stream it for free on Tubi. I’ll leave you with a simple reminder that I wish someone had shared with me when this film came out in 2015: it’s a lot, a lot better than its ugly cover would suggest.
