Canelo Vs. Crawford: September Fight at 168 Jobs in Mexico Freedom Weekend

Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford is scheduled for September, Mexican Independence Day, for Alvarez’s three super middleweight titles at 168, with no rehydration clause.

If the Canelo-Crawford fight wins, it could be the second when Canelo (62-2-2, 39 KOs) faces IBF champion William Scull on Cinco de Mayo weekend in May. Canelo will be the favorite for Scull to regain his IBF title.

Crawford Has Size

Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) hangs around in the 170s, so it shouldn’t be a big deal for him to move up to 168 to challenge Canelo. The biggest problem Crawford will have is trying to win without fighting Canelo. If Terence is just going to beat Canelo, following Mayweather’s plan, as his trainer, Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre, has said he will, it won’t work to get a decision.

Canelo hit harder than Crawford so even if he lands more punches the judges will focus on the big shots. That’s how Canelo defeated Erislandy Lara, who is much bigger and stronger than Crawford, but he didn’t have enough pop to win the decision.

We don’t know Crawford’s real reason for wanting the Canelo fight. He says it’s about “legacy,” but he also talks about money and doesn’t want to go up to 168 to make weight. That’s fear on Crawford’s part. It just reveals that it’s about money for him. I feel like this is about wealth for him because if he really believed he would have gone up in weight to super middleweight to show that he can enter this division by beating one or two top dogs.

Since he doesn’t do that, it makes it clear that Crawford is just looking for a payday against Canelo. That’s right. He blames the hustle and bustle. If Turki is willing to give Crawford some dough, that’s on him, but a lot of fans feel stupid and put off afterward for wasting their money on a Jermell Charlo 2.0 type of mismatch. Crawford is not as big or strong as Jermell. he’s definitely not as young as Jermell was when he fought Canelo, Terence will be 38 by when he fought Canelo in September.

So, it doesn’t matter if he lost. All of this has been key to his career since Crawford’s unsuccessful effort against Canelo. He could spend the rest of his life eating caviar and drinking from a glass of his own pink in the airtalking about the fake British style affected by the upper crust in the American society of the very rich.

Keyshawn’s Crawford Crusade

“They’re looking at Terence,” Keyshawn Davis told MillCity Boxing about his disagreements with the fans’ perception of his sparring partner and close friend, Terence Crawford, not getting a chance against Canelo Alvarez in September.

“How big is Canelo compared to Terence, they will say he has no chance because of his size. You can punch him but he’s still KO,” said Keyshawn when asked if Crawford can knock Canelo down or if he will try to beat him to win the decision.

“Anyone can go in there. I won’t count him out of KO’ing Canelo, but boxing definitely gets him the win. Me, I put it on that card in the co-main. Don’t forget, put me on that card. I will be world champion [Keyshawn hopes],” Davis said.

Keyshawn shouldn’t let his friendship with Crawford blind him from seeing the war for what it is. He doesn’t knock Canelo out. He will be too busy running away from her after tasting her power early. Crawford almost lost his last fight in his debut at 154 against Israel Madrimov on August 3 last year. His strength had not increased from 147, and his face was badly beaten at the end of the fight. Madrimov was overwhelming him, and he was lucky to get a decision because big, clean, effective punches were landed by the champion.

Asking for a spot

“Yes, Turk [Al-Sheikh]put me on the card,” said Keyshawn, pleading with Turki to make him the main character of the Canelo vs. Crawford. “You know who I would like to fight. I would like to fight Isaac Cruz. I do not know why. I just feel it, and he can put in a great performance. I can only hear that it will be a fierce battle. I would like to fight ‘Rayo’ again [Jose Valenzuela]. I feel like both of these guys are always coming to fight.”

It’s too late for Keyshawn to fight Isaac Cruz because he’s already fighting Ryan Garcia next. He won’t fight Keyshawn on the ground.

“I would like to fight both of those guys, they are both 140 years old. We don’t have to fight for the belt,” said Keyshawn. “We could have just fought. Let’s just fight, both of those guys lost. So, it’s not like they’re ducking or running so they don’t lose their O’s. I’m sure I won’t lose O [Note: Keyshawn refuses to fight Andy Cruz, who beat him four times]. I just want to fight.

“Win, lose, or draw, I made millions of dollars. I don’t care. I would love to fight those two guys for sure. I would love to fight those guys. Just an action-packed battle. Both of us did not give up, and tried to control the center of the ring. We’re both trying to come out in the open,” said Keyshawn when asked what the fight between him and 5’4″ Isaac Cruz would be like.

“I will continue to throw them. I’m not saying I’m going to fight this guy in the ring bro. He saw me fight Miguel Madueno [using a lot of wrestling, picking Madeuno up, using a lot of pushing and rabbit punching] on the backfoot all the fight In some rounds, I was going forward, and in other rounds [most]I was backing away. Just what I’m saying [the recently beaten] “Isaac Cruz was going to be a very crowded fight, and I feel like it’s going to be fun in boxing,” Davis said.

Keyshawn needs to put a sock in it. Isaac Cruz has bigger fish to fry, negotiating a big money fight with Ryan Garcia on the Turki Al-Sheikh card in May in Times Square in Manhattan, New York. Cruz won’t waste time with Keyshawn Davis, who is fighting for a chump change, and is likely to lock horns all night in a nasty, nasty fight.

If Keyhawn wants to fight, he needs to find courage and face his four-time champion Andy Cruz to try to avenge at least one of his losses against the talented Cuban. I don’t think Keyshawn will, but he has to prove he’s not a fake.

No contracts have been signed yet, but Canelo Alvarez, boxing star, and Terence Crawford are slated to meet on Mexico’s Independence Day weekend in September if all is said and done. And as Crawford said, it will happen at 168 pounds without the rehydration clause. pic.twitter.com/Gw0DoA21uH
