Canelo Alvarez met with Turki Al-Shiekh today and said there is a “chance” for a fight between him and Terence Crawford. He says he’s always looking to make “the best deals.”
Turki hopes to set up a fight between Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs) and Crawford in 2025 because it is one of the biggest fights that could happen in North America this year. It remains to be seen if he can fight that fight.
Canelo Wants “Best Deals”
Crawford, 37, has not said what he will do if he can’t fight Canelo. We know that Terence’s age and his fight at 154 against the younger, stronger, and older will eventually lead to his defeat. He almost lost his last fight, his debut at 154 against WBA junior middleweight champion Israel Madrimov on August 3 last year.
“It’s always an opportunity there. We’ll see, but there’s always an opportunity here to make better deals, and there’s always an opportunity,” said Canelo Alvarez speaking to Ring Magazine when asked if the fight between him and Terence Crawford could happen next.
“I think it will be another good fight. Both fighters are good fighters. So, I think they both have a chance to win,” Canelo said of the February 22 rematch between undisputed light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol in Riyadh.
Former world champion Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) is looking to challenge Canelo for his super middleweight unification titles this year. He thinks he has the talent to overcome his lack of size. Crawford thinks he has enough size and skills to defeat Canelo.
The Mexican star is showing signs of slowing down in his last two fights against Edgar Berlanga and Jaime Munguia. These are fights that Canelo could have taken in 2021 and even earlier but he was forced to take a 12 round decision to defeat them.
