Canelo and Crawford agree to fight in September in Las Vegas
Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford have reportedly agreed to fight in September in Las Vegas. United super middleweight champion Canelo (62-2-2, 39 KOs) met Turki Al-Shiekh in London last Saturday.
“Sources close to the operation tell me that an agreement has been reached for Canelo Álvarez and Terence Crawford to face each other in September of this year in Las Vegas. #CaneloCrawford,” Julius Julianis told X.
It is a good move for Canelo to fight Crawford in September because he will be fighting him for a long time. The Nebraska native, Bud, has not fought since his upset victory over WBA junior middleweight champion Israel Madrimov on August 3. Crawford is unlikely to take a serious fight before the September showdown against Canelo.
Julianis added that both fights will take interim fights, but Crawford may choose not to. He didn’t look good against Madrimov. Even against a 154-pounder, he’ll likely struggle due to the size, youth, and strength of everyone he’s fighting.
Ideally, Crawford should take an interview fight at 168 to get his feet wet in that division before fighting Canelo. Again, that is very dangerous. Terence, 37, has been largely inactive since 2020, fighting once a year and facing one quality guy, Madrimov, and almost losing to him.
This is the big fight boxing fans have been asking for with Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs). Now, it seems to be here.
