Cameron Payne’s Hilarious Arrest Tape Is Released: VIDEO

Of all the NBA arrest tapes we’ve seen, Cameron Payne’s might be one of the funniest.

The Knicks guard was arrested in June in Scottsdale, Arizona, for giving a false report to police and refusing to give his name.

The police arrived at the scene after it was alleged that the 30-year-old suspect was arguing with his girlfriend. In the video it appears that Payne was the one who called the police.

Scottsdale Police Department body cam video shows that when officers arrived at the scene Payne and his girlfriend both insisted that everything was fine.

The police then asked Payne his name, to which he replied, “I don’t have to tell you my name.” I’m fine.”

Payne and the policeman went back and forth for a while, the policeman explaining that he must say his name as it is against the law not to do so.

‘Terry Johnson’ was the name he ended up using and when pressed, he again gave a false date of birth.

It took about ten minutes for Payne to hold on to the name and the police kept telling him that if he lied they would have to arrest him.

He finally admitted that he was lying when the police called him outside.

“That was dumb,” said one of the officers.

The policeman said, tightening his cups, “That was a stupid way to get arrested, man.” Like, I’ve had people get arrested for dumb things, but this is at the top of the list.”

After Payne was taken to the squad car, Payne’s girlfriend tried to defend his lie.

“That’s what he went through,” she said. “That’s his name. He can’t get his own out [real] his name is public because he is an NBA player. He can’t stop – he never takes his own [real] name. He goes by one name. When we go to clubs or hotels, one word is always spoken.”

Court records show he was charged with two felony charges in connection with the incident, one of obstruction – refusing to give a true name, and one of false information.

It is expected that the matter will be heard in November.
