On the hit TV show Buffy the Vampire SlayerCharisma Carpenter played Cordelia Chase, a member of the Slayer-led Scooby Gang who is constantly fighting monsters and other things that move in the night. When Carpenter left the show for Angel spinoff, fought even More creeping creatures alongside Buffy’s former beauty. What many fans of this Joss Whedon franchise don’t realize, however, is that Charisma Carpenter battled a monster in real life, surviving a 1991 attack that could have easily killed her and her friends.

Charisma Carpenter Attack

It all started in the future Buffy The actor was swimming with a few friends at Torrey Pines State Beach in San Diego. They all had nothing on their minds but serious fun in the sun, and they had no way of predicting the terrible event that was about to happen. Charisma Carpenter and her friends had to survive an attack by the last person they expected to attack them: a police officer.

The officer in question was Henry Hubbard Jr., a 29-year-old officer who wasted no time terrorizing the three beachgoers. He pointed the gun at Charisma Mbazi but did not attack her directly; instead, he used a gun to try to force him to arrest his two friends. Amazingly, he refuses to do so (you tell him, Cordelia!), and this gives one of his friends enough time to jump in and defeat Hubbard.

As aggressive as he is in the middle Buffy the Vampire Slayerit’s still a stretch to think that Charisma Carpenter has the same strength in real life, surviving what would have been a horrific attack because she refused to submit to an armed assailant. Years later, the actor explained that his reaction was the result of an important lesson he was taught at a very young age. “One of the things I was told when I was 10 years old is that whatever they do to you if they find you alone, it will be 10 times worse than what they should have done right there,” she said.

After all, Charisma Carpenter’s quick thinking did more than save her and her friends…it robbed Hubbard of the opportunity to attack future victims. He’s holding his police-issued flashlight, which is a small piece of evidence that helped convict the officer of a violent attack on the future. Buffy star. He was eventually sentenced to 56 years in prison for a series of attacks on a Los Angeles beach that included rape, robbery, and attempted murder, and would likely have continued to attack others if Mbazi and his friends hadn’t helped drive him away.

After the Attack

As for Charisma Carpenter, she refuses to let this attack define her life or who she is. He didn’t just kill it later (so to speak) and move on Buffy the Vampire Slayer again Angelbut would later serve as host of the aptly named Discovery Discovery series I survived the evil. The show featured other survivors telling their harrowing stories, and Carpenter’s experiences helped her bring these stories to life just as it gave the victims much-needed closure.

Certainly Buffy fans, this is all old news, but it’s something I just learned about. I honestly didn’t think I could respect Carpenter Charisma More after watching him effortlessly become the best part of every show he’s in, but knowing that he survived a violent attack in real life takes my respect to the next level. Go, Buffy. There’s a new Slayer in town and he knows exactly how to protect his friends whenever the monster moves.
