Buffy the Vampire Slayer it was more than a popular urban fairy tale show. It was a TV series that changed the landscape of television with its sharp writing as it made us fall in love with its eclectic cast. Perhaps none of these characters are more captivating than James Marsters’ Spike, who enters the show as a soulless and selfish vampire and leads the series heroically sacrificing himself to save the world. Many Buffy fans wish Spike was real, and maybe he was…at least, that’s what some fans are saying after a Redditor found Spike looking super cute in a Joy Division documentary.
The Real Spike
This story starts on r/Buffy (chief Buffy the Vampire Slayer subreddit), where /PotentialLanguage685 posted pictures of a Spike that looks like a very real Spike. The user was watching a 2007 documentary Joy Division focusing on the band of the same name and featuring mainly clips from the late ’70s. And the user helped by capturing images of this Spike doppelganger that appeared on screen during a recording session highlighting the UK punk scene of the time.
At this point, it should be emphasized that this unnamed man looks nothing like James Marsters, the actor who brought our bad boy vampire to life. Rather, this Buffy A fan noted how much the man resembled Spike himself, making it seem like this vampire may have once existed in the real world. And after posting the photos, fans rushed to reveal that the man looked nothing like Spike at all…instead, Spike was deliberately designed to look like this archetypal punk figure.

But this stranger in the Joy Division documentary is proof that the various influences from our world lead to Spike’s creations all the more original.
