BSE, NSE closed today for Christmas; trading will resume on Thursday

The stock market, including the equity, derivative, and SLB segments, will remain closed on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, in observance of Christmas. The Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) will also suspend trading for both morning and evening sessions.

Commercial holidays in 2025

In the coming year, the markets will look 14 commercial holidaysa slight reduction from 16 in 2024. Important trade holidays include:

Notably, several holidays will fall on weekends by 2025, such as Republic Day (January 26), Shri Ram Navami (April 6), and Muharram (July 6). This means that traders will see fewer mid-week breaks.

Market performance on December 24

On the last day of trading before the Christmas holiday, domestic indexes showed positive sentiment. I Sex increased by 167 points, or 0.22 percent, to reach 78,714while i Nifty50 gained 53 points, or 0.22 percent, to trade 23,806.50 in the afternoon.

Among the players of the sectors, indicators such as Nifty Auto, FMCG, IT, Pharma, and Realty were in the green, indicating strong investor interest. However, Nifty Bank, Media, and Metal sectors faced sales pressure.

Key stocks in focus

Tata Group shares remain outstanding, with A Tata Investment Corporation company an increase of 10 percent. Currently, Tata Motors led the Nify50, gaining nearly 5 percent on strong investor confidence surrounding the group’s mega Tata Capital’s Rs 15,000 crore IPO plans.
