Boxing results: Latino night – Gilberto Ramirez defeats Chris Billam-Smith
Former WBO World Super Middleweight Champion and WBA Super World Cruiserweight Champion Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez defeated WBO World Cruiser Champion Chris Billam-Smith on Saturday night at Latino Night at The Venue in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Ramirez (47-1, 30 KOs) outworked Billam-Smith (20-2, 13 KOs), winning a 12-round unanimous decision in the main event on DAZN.
In the first round, Billam-Smith had the narrowest of punches. In the opening minute of the second round, Ramirez landed a sharp left. In the final minute, Billam-Smith landed a hard right to the chin. In the third round, Ramirez knocked out Billam-Smith.
In the final minute of the fourth round, Ramirez landed some solid shots to the chin, and Billam-Smith took them well. His age and size are the same, and Billam-Smith has a small cut over his left eye.
Both had their moments in the fifth, with Billam-Smith landing uppercuts and Ramirez landing a big left to the chin. Ramirez had a great round with blood from Billam-Smith’s left eyelid running down his face in the sixth. The ring doctor checked the eye between rounds.
In the seventh round, another good shot by Ramirez that knocks Billam-Smith out of the body, and Billiam-Smith’s left eye is slightly closed. It was all Ramirez in the eighth minute until the final minute, with Billam-Smith landing three short rights to the chin.
Ramirez has to wonder what kept Billam-Smith in ninth place. He kept coming forward, taking punches from Ramirez. In the next round, Billam-Smith had his best round of the fight.
In the eleventh round, Billam-Smith showed a lot of heart, matching Ramirez’s punch. Both had moments in the twelfth and final round, and looked tired as hell.
The scores were 116-112, 116-112, and 116-113.
Arnold Barboza Jr. Defeats Jose Ramirez
In the main event, former 2012 Olympian and WBC and WBO Light Welter champion Jose Ramirez (29-2, 18 KOs) lost a close decision to WBO Intercontinental Super Light champion Arnold Barboza, Jr. (31-0, 11 KOs ) by unanimous decision in 10 rounds.
In the first round it was like a chess game. Barboza’s powerful finish may have won him this round. In the second and third rounds Ramirez continues to come out on top in another close fight. In the fourth round, Ramirez may have finished the round with a strong finish.
In the fifth round, at the end of the minute, Barboza landed an uppercut to the chin after controlling his jab. In the sixth and seventh rounds, Barboza’s jab continued to make the difference. In both bells, Barboza landed a jab and right hand on Ramirez’s chin.
In the eighth and ninth rounds, Ramirez continued to come forward, possibly taking rounds from Barboza. In the tenth and final round, Barboza landed some good left hooks to the body, countering Ramirez in a close fight.

William Zepeda Edges Tevin Farmer
Number 1 ranked in all four divisions, WBA Continental Americas Light southpaw William ‘Camaron’ Zepeda (32-0, 27 KOs) won a 10-round split decision over former IBF Super Feather southpaw Tevin ‘Two Time’ Farmer (33-7-1, 8 KOs), coming off the canvas for the WBC Interim Light title.
In the second round, Zepeda finished strong with punches. In the fourth round, Farmer dropped Zepeda with a left counter to the chin in the middle of the round for an 8 count by Referee Harvey Dock. In the fifth round, Zepeda came back, landed more punches, and Farmer landed some heavy punches.
In the sixth round Zepeda came back well finding Farmer putting pressure on him. In the seventh round Zepeda kept coming forward but Farmer countered him enough to take a close round.
In the eighth and ninth rounds, each had their moments, with Zepeda coming forward and Mlimi opposing him, each taking a round. In the 10th and final round, Farmer makes a splash and Zepeda doesn’t. Zepeda attacks with a series of punches, but Farmer is able to tie him up, stopping his momentum. The farmer might have let out a big tantrum. Wrapping can make a difference.
The scores were 95-94 Zepeda, 95-94 Farmer, and 95-94 Zepeda.
Oscar Collazo Establishes CP Freshmart Niyomrong
WBA World Minimumweight Champion Thammanoon ‘CP Freshmart’ Niyomtrong (25-1, 9 KOs) was stopped by southpaw WBO Minimum Champ Oscar ‘El Pupilo’ Collazo (11-0, 8 KOs) in a unified title fight on 1 :29 of the seventh round of the scheduled 12 rounds.
Through the first five rounds, southpaw Collazo was the busier of the two for most of the time. CP Freshmart seems to be loading a large counter, but that hasn’t happened yet.
In the sixth round, after one minute, CP Freshmart took a sharp blow to the chin. With 30 seconds left, a counter right hook from Collazo to the chin and down dropped CP Freshmart at the 8 count of referee Ricky Gonzalez.
In the seventh round, a double right hook from Collazo to the side of the head and down CP Freshmart to the canvas for the 8 count of Referee Gonzalez just over a minute into the round. Soon after a boundary line followed by a left to the chin from Collazo and below it went down and referee Gonzalez waved it off.
Oscar Duarte Beats Bortirozhon Akhmedov
Super Lightweight Oscar ‘La Migrana’ Duarte (28-2-1, 22 KOs) defeated southpaw 2016 Olympian (over 100 bouts) Botirzhon ‘The Shark’ Akhmedov (10-4, 9 KOs) over for ten rounds. Durate lost the first rounds but recovered enough to take the decision.
In the first round, the late world champion southpaw Akhmedov appeared to have a chance. They won many rounds against each other before this match. In the second through fifth rounds, Akhmedov had the edge when Durate was not busy, and the other punches fell.
In the sixth and seventh rounds, Durate was able to hang on more because Akhmedov was leading more by the head. In the eighth round, Durate landed a right in the first minute on Akhmedov’s chin, knocking him out. He came right back, but as the fight went on, Durate seemed to have an answer.
In the ninth round Durate landed several rights to the chin. There was not a single title in this fight, which made it easy for referee Robert Hoyle. In the tenth and final round, Durate backed up Akhmedov throughout the round, earning him his first disqualification. Finally, a small cut on Durate’s forehead.
The results were 98-92, 97-93 and 96-94.
Welter Ziyad ‘Zizo’ Almaayouf (6-0-1, 1 KO) ended in a six-round draw with Juan Carlos ‘Demoledor’ Garcia (5-6-1).
In the first round, Almaayouf controlled it using his jab. In the final seconds, Garcia finished strong with left hooks. In the second round, late sub Garcia took out Almaayouf’s mouth. Instead of taking it to the corner, referee Robert Hoyle takes it back into the middle. Garcia had a great round to the body.
In the third round, Almaayouf ended the round by rocking Garcia with a left hook and taking Garcia’s head back. In the fourth and fifth rounds, both had their moments. In the final seconds, Garcia drew blood from Almaayouf’s nose in the fourth.
In the sixth and final round Garcia won the fight, but will he get a decision against a local opponent? No, it ended in a draw.
The scores were 58-56 Almaayoug, 57-57, and 57.
