Boxing Results: Gabriela Fundora Stops Alaniz In 7th, And Wins Undisputed Flyweight Crown
In the undercard of the Golden Boy Promotions Floyd Schofield-Rene Tellez Giron event that aired live on DAZN, Gabriela “Sweet Poison” Fundora stopped Gabriela Alaniz (15-2, 6 KOs) in the seventh round and won the undisputed flyweight title.
Gabriela Fundora entered the uncontested fight on Saturday night as the IBF champion and her opponent Gabriela Alaniz entered the contest as joint world champions of the WBC, WBA, WBO. The fight turned out to be a full-on fight that Fundora was able to end by force.
Two years ago, siblings Gabriela and Sebastian Fundora had a televised interview about who would be the first to win the world title. Back in October 2023, Gabriela won the IBF world title, and five months later her brother became a unified champion when he defeated Tim Tszyu and won the vacant WBO and WBC belts.
On Saturday night, Gabriela Fundora got a chance to step up in her friendly sibling rivalry with her brother Sebastian. In her undisputed debut, 5-foot 9-inch southpaw Gabriela Fundora landed a solid right hook early in the opening round.
As the first round progressed, the 5 foot 3 inch Gabriela Alaniz closed the distance, landed a sharp combination, and went out of range. In the second round, Alaniz managed to land another solid combination, but paid the price as Fundora responded by connecting with a big right hook.
Alaniz started the 3rd round well as he connected with a 2-1 combination and followed it up with a flurry of punches. A fire broke out in the last 30 seconds of the fourth round as both Fundora and Alaniz fired at each other with a lot of power.
In the 5th and 6th rounds, Alaniz was able to finish his offense, but every time Alaniz connected, he was hit by return fire. Midway through the seventh round, Fundora landed a big left hand that dropped Alaniz.
Seconds later, Gabriela Fundora landed another big left hand that sent Gabriela Alaniz down to the canvas. Alaniz was able to continue, but Fundora continued to land another hard punch, sending Alaniz back to the canvas.
Again, Alaniz was able to stand up, but he looked shaky. At that point the referee decided to step in and stop the contest. With the decision victory, Gabriela Fundora (15-0, 7 KOs) is the new undisputed flyweight champion.
Now that the 22-year-old Fundora has successfully conquered the flyweight division, he has plenty of career options to choose from. However, before he announces any plans regarding his boxing future, Fundora wants to contact his promoters Golden Boy and Sampson Boxing to pursue the best option.
