Biden commutes the sentence of an officer who stole $53M from a small town

President Biden made history Thursday when he commuted the prison sentences of nearly 1,500 people and granted clemency to 49, marking the largest single-day act of clemency in modern history.

In this intense action, Biden revoked the sentence of a person who was convicted of the biggest municipal fraud in the history of America, angering the current leaders of the town where he lived.

Included in the list of inmates Biden released from home confinement during the COVID-19 crisis was Rita Crundwell, the former governor of Dixon, Illinois, who was convicted in 2013 and sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison for stealing about $54. million in a city of 15,000 people in twenty years.
