Last year, TPG conducted a taste test of free snacks on major US airlines, and TPG employees and social media followers weighed in.
Although inflight snack options have changed since then, one thing hasn’t changed: All snacks are not created equal, and some airlines are better at snacking than others.
However, we are happy to report that some airlines have improved their food options, including snacks.
Here are the top TPG snacks you can eat right now in the sky.
To no one’s surprise, Biscoff is still the iconic cookie in the sky in 2024. While it generally remains a fan favorite, it’s currently available on only a few domestic carriers.
“Delta Biscoff strikes a chord,” said TPG video producer Reina Lee.
Biscoff is offered to all customers on Delta Air Lines flights and in the main cabin of American Airlines flights of at least 250 miles in length. However, United Airlines replaced Biscoff with fruit bars and a delicious snack mix (and a controversial option we’ll get to in a bit) when it released its revamped snack menu in March.
Commenting on United’s snack overhaul, TPG senior editor Erica Silverstein said, “United’s options are generally boring — chocolate quinoa, really?”
As a United flyer, I’ll step in for now and commend United for having our options for travelers with food restrictions. I personally chose the Undercover Snacks dark chocolate and sea salt (and yes, quinoa) crisps for a sweet, low-sugar option.

However, Erica said she enjoys United’s Summer Harvest snack mix, which is a combination of rye bagel chips, garlic bread bites and mini pretzel twists.
“Savory beat is delicious when it comes to mid-range snacks, the most popular snack being the Summer Harvest Savory Snack Mix,” United said in a press release on December 17.
TPGers also enjoy the pretzels on Southwest Airlines – especially the Stellar Snacks Maui Monk pretzels, which are pretzels with Maui onion flavor that are also vegan.
Another favorite among Delta flyers is the airline’s mini Sun Chips.
If you’re flying on an international carrier, you’ll have different snacks to choose from, such as rice cakes on Japan Airlines and Manner hazelnut wafer cookies on Austrian Airlines.
Bottom line
Delta is widely regarded as a favorite airline among TPGers and students alike, and its recent partnership with Shake Shack is an example of the reasons why.
Starting this month, Delta first class domestic fliers from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) can pre-select a Shake Shack cheeseburger as their check-in option on flights over 900 miles.
The burger is customized with tomato, lettuce, and ShackSauce. Comes with chips, Caesar salad and a dark chocolate brownie.
Delta plans to expand the ShackBurger menu option to additional markets by 2025.
Other airlines could benefit from paying attention to Delta, which maintains fan favorites while continuing to innovate.
