Bernie Sanders joins the ranks of progressives condemning violence while offering an explanation for the CEO firing

Sen. Bernie Sanders, Vt., is the latest progressive to appear to justify the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson after criticizing violence.

On Sunday’s “Meet the Press”, Sanders was asked about Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s, D-Mass., ironic comments on Thompson’s death.

“Violence is never the solution. This guy gets a case for allegedly killing the CEO of UnitedHealth.[care]but you can push people so far, and then they start to take matters into their own hands,” said Warren.

Responding to Warren’s comments, Sanders appeared to offer an explanation for the killing after condemning the violence.

“Look, Elizabeth Warren obviously understands that murdering, killing and shooting someone in the back is totally unacceptable, but what I think has happened in the last few months is that what you’ve seen is the rise of people’s anger at the health insurance industry, which is denying people the health care they need most while making billions and billions of dollars in profits. ,” Sanders said.

“So, to kill anybody, to shoot somebody in the back who was a father of two, it’s outrageous. And it’s unacceptable. Nobody, nobody should applaud you. I know Senator Warren didn’t. But I think what we need to ask ourselves when we talk about health care, is why we’re the only great country in the World we don’t guarantee health care for all people, why do we have a much lower life expectancy than other countries, why do people in the working class die five 10 years shorter there are people at the top,” he continued.

After receiving significant pushback, Warren later retracted his comments.

“Violence will never be the answer. Time is,” he told Fox News Digital. “I should have been more clear that there was no reason to kill.”

Luigi Mangione, who is accused of killing Thompson, has become a hero to the left on the Internet as punishment for health insurance companies that refuse to pay.

Some conservative figures have condemned the violence but limited their views to attacks on the health care system. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., also said the shooting was unjustified but added that the denial claims could be seen as “an act of violence.”

“This does not mean that the act of violence is justified, but I think that for anyone who is confused or scared or scared, he should understand that people interpret and feel and meet the claims that have been challenged as an act of violence for them,” Ocasio. – Cortez said.
