Benavidez Vs. Morrell: ‘Black Beating’ In The Making?
Trainer Greg Hackett says David Benavidez will use his experience and striking to defeat David Morrell on February 1. Hackett sees this as a competitive fight over the first five rounds, with Morrell (11-0, 9 KOs) looking good, but Benavidez (29- 0, 24 KOs) will take the fight and attack him.
Hackett is of the popular opinion that Benavidez has too much experience in beauty for the 26-year-old Morrell to handle.
Although Morrell has often fought smaller fighters against better fighters than Benavidez has faced, he does not yet have the experience of fighting long fights. Only three of Morrell’s games have reached the round of 12 in his five-year career.
Benavidez-Morrell will meet in 38 days at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The event will be shown live on PBC on Prime Video PPV. Morrell will defend his WBA ‘standard’ light heavyweight title in his second bout at 175. Benavidez will be at risk for his interim WBC belt.
Benavidez’s Aggressive Style
“He tried to whip her with a belt. That was crazy,” Greg Hackett told YSM Sports Media about how David Morrell tried to hit David Benavidez with his WBA belt after shoving him during a media workout.
“They know they’re dangerous, and there’s a lot riding on it. Both have something to prove because they are in a new weight class. Some people like Morrell, and some people like Benavidez. You always know that this is the hottest battle because your coaches are thrown in the camp.
“Look at the real fire. Look for Morrell to try all his tricks, and look for Benavidez to dig deep and go to that body and really try to rip him apart. I think it’s too early for Morrell. I pick Benavidez all day. “I think he’s the most experienced, the hardest fighter and the most tested,” Hackett said.
It won’t be easy for Benavidez to target Morrell’s body because he moves and has a bad left hand, which makes it dangerous for the Mexican Monster. He will try to go to the body, but he may regret it later if he is cut off by Morrell.
Coach Sees Ahead of ‘Black Hit’
“Morrell will look good in the first five. Maybe the first three before I saw the exchange, but I say the first five, he [Morrell] you will look good. Then Benavidez will start looking very, very scary. It will begin to get dark. It’s going to be one of those hit-and-run incidents,” Hackett said.
Morrell was on top form in the early rounds of his August 3 fight against ‘Hot Rod’ Radivoje Kalajdzic, but seemed to slow down in the second half. However, Morrell is still throwing hard even in the championship rounds. Kalajdzic held a lot, which saved him from taking too many hard shots on the ground.
Benavidez doesn’t catch, and his defense is his offense. Morrell can do a lot of damage against that type of fighter, and he could take him out if Benavidez gets reckless.
