BEML, MDL signature agreement for research in advanced marine technology
Bengaluru-headquartered BEML Ltd and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate in research and development of advanced marine technologies, officials said on Tuesday.
The signing ceremony was held at the BEML office in Delhi and was attended by BEML CMD Shantanu Roy, MDL Director (Shipbuilding) Sanjeev Singhal, and senior officials from both organisations.
In a statement, BEML highlighted that the partnership underscores its commitment to strengthening research capabilities and fostering innovation in the defense and maritime sectors.
“By combining BEML’s proven engineering expertise with MDL’s shipbuilding experience, this partnership aims to harness opportunities in the maritime sector and contribute to India’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and technological self-reliance in critical defense technologies,” the statement said.
BEML CMD Shantanu Roy said, “We are pleased to partner with MDL to develop the nation’s maritime sector by developing indigenous technologies. This partnership demonstrates our commitment to reducing foreign dependence while developing domestic manufacturing capabilities in the defense sector.”
MDL Director Sanjeev Singhal added, “This MoU represents a significant step towards innovation and confidence in defense manufacturing under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat programme.
It shows the shared vision of both organizations to promote development in maritime applications.”
The statement also noted that BEML will use its expertise to provide technical guidance for the design and production of strategic marine equipment.
The company will also focus on improving manufacturing processes to meet the unique needs of the marine industry.
Meanwhile, MDL will lead international development efforts by leveraging BEML’s manufacturing capabilities in defense, rail, and mining equipment.
MDL will also provide dedicated resources for BEML’s research team to develop, test, and validate new technologies and systems, according to the release.
The partnership aims to deliver state-of-the-art solutions in line with India’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, improving the country’s maritime capabilities while reducing reliance on imports, the statement said.
