As Delhi NCR’s air quality worsens, GRAP limits of 27 points for Phase 1 apply

Delhi Air Quality Index Latest News: The national capital has prepared the first level of restrictions under its Phased Response Plan as air quality deteriorates due to climate change and forest fires in neighboring states. Phase 1 restrictions will come into effect on Tuesday, October 15, a subcommittee of the Commission on Air Quality Management (CAQM) announced on Monday evening. The GRAP norms are a set of measures aimed at addressing air pollution in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). GRAP measures are divided into four categories, based on Air Quality Index (AQI) readings.
Date and time when Phase 1 restrictions will come into force in Delhi NCR
The GRAP measures will come into force at 8 am on October 15, according to the CAQM panel.
What triggered GRAP Phase 1 restrictions on NCR?
The Air Quality Index (AQI) reading reached 234 in the National Capital Region (NCR) on Monday.
This is the standard used to determine the level of restrictions on the work required based on the severity of air pollution in the region.
The first category of limitations focuses on dealing with “poor” quality air.
An AQI reading in the range of 201-300 is considered an indicator of poor air quality.
The average daily AQI for Delhi reached 234 today. The CAQM sub-committee on GRAP duly requests a 27-point action plan as per Phase-I of GRAP wef 8:00 AM dated 15.10.2024, across NCR.

The panel conducted a comprehensive review of air quality in the region and weather forecasts before deciding on the measures.
A “sudden dip in air quality parameters” was recorded in the national capital in 24 hours and forecasts also predict that the air quality will remain poor in the coming days due to adverse weather conditions, wrote the Air Quality Management Commission in the National Capital Region and Adjoining. Restrictions under Level 1 GRAP
Several restrictions come into effect in the first phase, including improved public transportation, increased frequency of mechanical street sweeping, and proper waste management.
What is the next level of restrictions?
The next stage is defined by an AQI reading of 301-400, which indicates “very poor” quality.
Restrictions under Level 2 GRAP include bans on construction and demolition activities, except for essential projects, and sometimes restrictions on schools.
