He called for the immediate implementation of UN resolution 1701. This resolution prohibits the presence of Lebanese Hezbollah forces in the border area with Israel and gives authority only to the Lebanese army and the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL) south of the Litani River. .

UN missions monitor the border area between Lebanon and Israel. More than 10,000 UN troops from more than 50 countries are involved.

“Resolution 1701 is important and must be implemented literally and as soon as possible. We do not allow the brutality with which UNIFIL was treated in southern Lebanon,” said Abul Gheit.

The Arab spokesman was asked if he believed that Hezbollah had been destroyed by Israel but replied: “You cannot destroy the idea.”
