Andy Cruz fights Omar Salcido this month in a 10-round bout on the Matchroom card promoted by Eddie Hearn on January 25 at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Chelsea Ballroom, Las Vegas. Super middleweight Diego Pacheco will fight Steven Nelson in the main event.
‘Diamond’ Andy Cruz (4-0, 2 KOs) is fast tracked by Hearn due to his impressive pedigree as a rookie in Cuba. He took the Olympic gold medal in 2020, defeating US fighter Keyshawn Davis. That was Cruz’s fourth win over Davis, and it’s not easy.
Salcido (20-1, 14 KOs) is coming off a dominant ninth round submission victory over Chris Colbert on October 16 last year. Colbert was once considered a future world champion and star at super featherweight. His career has declined over the past three years.
Cruz is ranked #4 WBA, #5 WBC, and #6 IBF at lightweight. He has to fight regularly against better opposition to get the world title soon. None of the top guys want to fight Andy, understandably. That’s Hearn’s prediction.
