Devastated Jannik Sinner celebrates winning ATP-End No. 1 of the ATP presented by PIF honors on Monday evening at the Nitto ATP Finals in front of a packed crowd at the Inalpi Arena.
“It’s a good feeling, [it is] A special collaboration in these times here in Italy with the crowd,” said Sinner after the unforgettable ceremony where he was presented with the medal by ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi, former world number 1 Boris Becker and Head of Corporate Brand and Strategic Advisory at PIF. Mohamed Alsayyad. “This would not be possible without all the people I have and especially this kind of people I want to keep forever, because it has a journey from the beginning.”
Sinner’s tennis team and family, including his parents, were among the crowd. The people of Turin roared their approval as the home favorite showed the fans the trophy.
“I just heard that my mother was crying, which is a very good thing,” said Sinner. “They are the only ones who know since I was young and in stages, when I was 13, how much sacrifice we made as a family.
“Now I’m standing here with one, maybe the most special trophy I have.”
On 10 June, Sinner became the first man or woman from her country to reach World No. 1 in singles since the introduction of computerized rankings in 1973. He has not left his place since then.
The 23-year-old is the 19th player to receive the year-end honors and the fourth active player to do so. Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz are others.
“It’s a big competition between this and the Grand Slams,” said Sinner. “This is a fixed trophy. You have to play tennis for one year, so this is a very difficult award to get. “
The event coincided with the launch of ‘ATP No. 1 Club’, which will celebrate all current and former ATP World No. 1 in one place for their incredible efforts to reach the top of the PIF ATP Rankings.
