American swimmers broke the world record in the men’s 4×100 freestyle as the Americans dominated on the first day of the worlds.
Team USA, led twice Olympic medalist Jack Alexy, won the men’s 4×100-meter freestyle to win gold and break a world record on the first day of the world short course swimming championships in Hungary on Tuesday.
Alexy, who took home her first gold medal in the same event at the 2024 Paris Olympics, broke the American and world championship records with a world-leading time of 45.05 seconds.

Luke Hobson, Kieran Smith and Chris Guiliano completed the relay to win the gold medal and set a world record in an official time of 3:01.66. It beat the previous record by two seconds.
The win capped a big day for the Americans that included five world records and four golds.

Kate Douglas set the world record in the women’s 200 medley with a time of 2:01.63, followed by teammate Alex Walsh in second place. The women’s 4×100 relay team also set a record by winning gold with a time of 3:25.01.
American Shaine Casas also made history with his gold medal in the men’s 200.

The competition will continue on Wednesday with the women’s 800 freestyle final, the women’s 50 butterfly final, the men’s 100 backstroke final, the 50 butterfly final and the 4×50 medley relay final.
