Amazon may tap Brian Williams to host an election night special

Former news anchor Brian Williams is in talks to host an election night special for Amazon Prime, reports Variety. The show will apparently be an “unbiased discussion” as election night news comes in and may involve more guests.

Williams has been out of the news game for a long time. She lost her role as an NBC anchor Nightly News after some of his reports were found to have been embellished several times. He went on to host MSNBC 11 o’clock until he resigned from the network in 2021.

If the deal goes through, Williams will begin coverage of the Nov. 5 presidential election at 5PM ET and continue for up to eight hours — or longer if the election is too close to be called, he wrote. Variety, citing unnamed sources familiar with the negotiations. The program will reportedly not be relevant to current affairs; instead, Williams and his guests explained the events as the night progressed. And the show won’t call the race, per say The Daily Beast.

The deal has not been finalized, Variety report. Its sources also cautioned that the news does not mean Amazon is planning on mainstream media.
