Amazon is showing that workers can quit if they don’t like its mandate to return to the office

AWS CEO Matt Garman has some harsh words for remote workers: get back to the office or quit. An Amazon executive recently told employees who don’t like the new five-day personal work policy that, “there are other companies around,” likely companies they can work remotely, Reuters reported Thursday.

Amazon’s chief executive, Andy Jassy, told workers last month that there would be a full return to work from 2025, an increase from about three days last year.

Garman is the latest tech CEO to set his foot in the remote business, but he’s not the first. At the beginning of the year, Dell allegedly told employees that they would not be considered for promotion if they entered the office. That said, remote work is probably going nowhere for most people. Research shows that most remote workers would quit if they had to return to the office.

Amazon did not immediately respond to TechCrunch’s request for comment.
