Amazon may be in trouble with the promised AI improvements to Alexa.
Bloomberg reported that the company’s signature voice assistant, which was supposed to get a major AI overhaul before the end of this year, will instead get that upgrade in 2025. The idea is to make Alexa smarter and more powerful by making it conversational and capable of new things. Unfortunately, by all accounts, that’s not happening.

I Bloomberg The report goes on to detail the problems AI-enhanced Alexa is having in testing. For example, beta users have reported that the AI can give long answers, which are completely inappropriate to the original question. Other suspected problems include hallucinations and, surprisingly, failure to work with connected smart devices such as constant brightness changes.
Amazon has yet to officially confirm any delays, but beta access is apparently closed, so you can’t even try out the more chatty Alexa in the testing environment. Maybe you will be able to use it in 2025.
