Roger Federer has seen a lot in his career. On Friday at the Laver Cup, the Swiss were facing something new.
Federer watched the four-time major champion and No. 3 in the PIF ATP Rankings Carlos Alcaraz playing the match in person for the first time.
The stars already knew each other at the start of the event, talking at various events, taking pictures and having a pleasant conversation on the training ground on Friday before the Spaniard’s game.

But for the first time, the list of pieces of the tour level 103 times Federer faced the Spanish match closely when Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev faced Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton in doubles. Fritz and Shelton won the match in straight sets.
Alcaraz reflected on playing a match in front of Federer for the first time, saying: “It was great, honestly, to play in front of him. It’s the first time he’s watched one of my matches in real life and I’m very happy that he was there watching our doubles.
“I think I’m beautiful [at doubles]but I’m not as good as him [I am at] singles, i think. I hope to see him tomorrow in the singles. I hope you enjoyed the two-man game, and it was obviously great to see him in practice. He didn’t tell me any tricks, or any advice. But he just told me that he was really happy to see me in real life, that I was here. It was a good time for me. I wished [for] that long time.”
