A Jumping Robot Goes To Space To Explore Asteroids

Another leaping robot called Lunar Leaper is being developed using data and engineering from Spacehopper. This second robot could be sent to the Moon as part of the ESA lunar mission.

Researchers developing the Lunar Leaper along with 8 students from Zürich plan to use their craft to explore a crater with an underground lava tube attached to it.

Asteroid exploration has been a developing area of research as astronomers hope to collect data that can help them trace the history of our universe. Spacehopper can help advance human understanding of the complex environments of microgravity and explore the geology of asteroids.

Determining the origin of interstellar matter and tracing its trajectory through space can give scientists insight into the physics of the universe and the origins of interstellar matter.
