A Chinese national is suspected of illegally voting in a key battlefield area
A Chinese citizen, who attends the University of Michigan, has been indicted for allegedly voting illegally in a key Michigan state — and the student’s vote is yet to be counted.
A spokesperson for the Michigan Secretary of State confirmed to Fox News Digital that a Chinese citizen voted at a polling place at the University of Michigan Museum of Art on Sunday, Oct. 27.
Federal authorities have condemned the action of a 19-year-old boy, saying that since the man is not an American citizen, he cannot vote in federal elections.
“Only US citizens can register and vote in our elections. It is illegal to lie on any registration forms or voting applications about a person’s citizenship status. Doing so is a crime,” Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and Washtenaw County Prosecutor Eli Savit wrote in a joint statement.

Despite the fact that the Chinese citizen’s vote was cast illegally, it is expected to be counted in the next election.
Andrew McCarthy, a Fox News contributor and former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, told Fox News Digital that it is expected to be counted because there is no way for election officials to find it once it is tabulated.
“The thing is, due to the need to hide the votes, the vote does not have an identifying PIN number or any other type of information that will enable a person to find out who voted for whom,” he said. “That’s our commitment to secret ballot.”
“But what that means is that if that person passes identification and qualification in the vote in advance and fills in the vote, the vote then enters the tabulator and is counted because there is no way to go back and collect it again. he says, ‘this is the vote that should not be voted.’ Here’s the problem here.”

McCarthy said the hope is that there is “enough security for the election that this will happen a few times enough that it will not affect the integrity of the results.”
“But the other important thing, and I don’t think it’s enough of this, is to violate state law and federal law for an alien to prove that he is an American citizen for the purpose of being allowed to register to vote,” he said. “And legally, at least, it’s a crime for a non-American to vote, at least if it’s done knowingly.”

“You must bring these cases because people must be aware that there is money to be paid if you vote illegally,” he said. “And if you don’t bring those cases, it means that you are not really serious about the integrity of the election.”

The Chinese national, whose identity has not been released, was charged with perjury after making a false statement to obtain voter registration and being an unauthorized voter who attempted to vote.

According to Michigan law, an unauthorized election is a felony punishable by up to four years and a fine of up to $2,000.
Democratic Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said in a statement that her office had launched an “independent, coordinated investigation” into the situation.

McCarthy highlighted why he believes voting in person on Election Day is the best — and safest — option.
“I think the safest way to vote and, to be honest, the best way to vote, is on Election Day because it means we all vote with the same information,” he said. “When people vote six weeks before the election, we don’t even vote with the same information because there are a lot of important things happening as we go to the election.
“But more importantly, for the purposes we’re talking about, there’s always been an official view that, for security purposes, we prefer that you go into the area on Election Day and vote. That’s how we can ensure that. The best,” he said. “What I think is so bad is that we have not only moved away from the idea that everyone should vote, but now we are taking the next step. If you vote remotely, and you make a mistake, that, you know. , the progressive Democrats decided that it is a small thing, even though it involves a process that exists directly to protect the integrity of the election , we must forgive that, or it must be the government’s fault that it made a mistake.”
