Vikings fan Tim Walz discusses safety during his visit to Lambeau, praises head coach Kevin O’Connell

Tim Walz may be on the campaign trail, but he’s still keeping up with one of his lifelong loves.

The Minnesota governor’s football background is well documented. While he was a teacher at Mankato West High School, long before his political career, he was an assistant coach for the school’s football team.

Earlier this month, he took in the Michigan-Minnesota game in Ann Arbor.

That game didn’t go well for him, but his Minnesota Vikings are 5-0, which he says is “exciting.”

Kamala Harris’ running mate also praised the team’s coach, Kevin O’Connell, calling him a “true professional” who has “created a culture that is beautiful to watch.”

“When I’m around this boy [O’Connell]I’m sure this guy can do anything. He can launch the space shuttle, it sounds like. It’s a sense of knowing, all the details,” Walz told “The Rich Eisen Show” on Friday.

“You’re not going to find a decent guy out there. You meet these people, you can tell sometimes if someone is there at the time. That’s who he is.”

While campaigning in the Midwest, Walz said he was in Green Bay on Monday and decided to take advantage of the stop.

“I was at Lambeau on Monday. It’s my first time,” he said. “We were in Green Bay for events, we had more time. And I said there’s no way I’m not going to go there. You know, when you walk in the door, they have a big Lombardi Trophy. They said our states have a lot in common.

But he admitted his security team has concerns.

“It was brutal. My team was worried. They said, ‘Don’t come into Lambeau and talk all kinds of shit.’ I said ‘You don’t go to church and swear I don’t go to Lambeau and talk smack.’
