Delta Air Lines is giving its cabins a new look.
The Atlanta-based carrier on Tuesday announced plans for a cabin facelift on its planes, with updated seat covers, new mood lighting, and a complete refresh of the airline’s cabin across its fleet.
Now, don’t board your next Delta flight expecting to see an updated look; it will be a slightly methodical release.
Later this year, Delta plans to retrofit one of its Boeing 757 aircraft serving domestic and short-haul international routes with a new look. The new beauty will enter the new Delta Airbus A350 operating on long-haul routes in early 2025.
However, the carrier ultimately hopes to give all of its fleet a new look — and uniformity, Delta said Tuesday.
“This updated cabin interior incorporates aesthetic elements to create an environment that feels fresh, elevated, and timeless while reflecting our customers’ changing needs and expectations,” Delta vice president of customer experience design Mauricio Parise said in a statement announcing the news.

The changes will be visible as soon as you board a Delta flight in the future. The airline’s royal blue seat covers will be replaced by a darker color, trimmed with bright red stripes.

New Delta branding and motifs will be seen around the cabin, too. Delta’s shot at an interior that “feels fresh, upscale and timeless,” as the company’s statement puts it.

To be clear, Delta isn’t getting new seats, so don’t expect a major product overhaul. This is more of a cosmetic update.
The seats will get a new cut and finish, as well as new cushions on its 757s.
On Delta One’s cabin jets, the carrier says its new leather seat covers — memory foam — are better at regulating temperature.
Also, Premium Select and First Class cabin-style seats will also get memory foam cushions, trimmed with leather seats.
And, it wouldn’t be a closet update without some improved ambient lighting. Delta will offer different mood lighting settings based on flight class, including a “warm and cozy” boarding area, and different sunsets and sunrises on night flights — not to mention “candlelight” settings for dinner service.
The cabin itself will get a new trim and look, too, including new splitters that feature a “heavenly sky pattern” and more Delta branding.
Timeline of the new wardrobe
Again, you won’t notice these changes immediately. By the end of 2025, new jets delivered to Delta will have an improved appearance, a TPG spokeswoman said.
Delta has a number of wide-body aircraft scheduled for delivery in the coming years, including an order for 20 A350-1000s announced in January. That’s on top of hundreds more light-body aircraft from Airbus scheduled to ship in the coming years.
The airline plans to retrofit its existing fleet with a new look. However, there is no timeline, yet, for when that fix might happen:
“More aircraft will receive the new cabin design as Delta’s schedule and operations allow over the next several years,” the carrier said.
The highest number of Deltas
This aesthetic upgrade comes as Delta aims to position itself as the leading airline in the US – an outfit that has seen increased competition in recent years from United Airlines, which is itself in the midst of a cabin overhaul and fleet expansion.
Last week, Delta cut the ribbon on its 10,000-square-foot Delta One Lounge at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and has more outdoor areas scheduled to open in the coming months.
Executives often tout the high-value spending that is charged to its SkyMiles loyalty members on a range of cobranded American Express credit cards. Delta made $1.8 billion through its Amex affiliate in the third quarter of this year, the company reported last week.
Now, it seems, the carrier is hoping that a touch up of its cabins will give its planes a new look in the coming years.
