Beterbiev-Bivol: Will Bivol Make Rematch A Bore-fest?

A bitter Eddie Hearn insists there must be a rematch between his boxer Dmitry Bivol and undisputed light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev after their showdown last Saturday night in Riyadh.

Bivol getting a quick rematch works for Hearn, as his fighter gets a second chance, but it doesn’t work for the fans. Bivol, the former WBA champion, made the fight boring with his moves, and has said he plans to spend more in the rematch.

Beterbiev has more interesting fight options than a fight with Bivol as well, who has said he plans to turn the rematch into another platform. In this modern era of boxing, fans want to be entertained, and Bivol is failing to do that with his old, safety-first approach.

In order to provide value to the fans, Beterbeiv should focus on fighting exciting fighters who actually come to fight. Bivol does not, and never has. Beterbiev should focus on fighting one of the Big Four:

  1. David Benavidez
  2. Canelo Alvarez
  3. David Morrell
  4. Joshua Buatsi

Bivol Using Multiple Moves in Rematch

Hearn-promotion Bivol has already told fans how the rematch will go by saying he thinks he should have used more moves to prevent Beterbiev from hitting him.

Bivol (23-1, 12 KOs) fights three-time unification 175-lb belt champion Beterbiev (21-0, 20 KOIs) it’s boring to watch to the fans for choosing not to get involved and walk around the ring for 12 boring rounds.

Many would agree that the war failed to live up to expectations, and Beterbiev was not to blame. Bivol’s Shakur-esque fighting style made it dull to watch, and not fun.

Hearn feels that his fighter, former WBA 175-lb champion Bivol, was given the ropes by the judges and should have won. The judges felt that Beterbiev did the better job with his powerful shots and pressure in the final round.

Points

– 114-114
– 115-113
– 116-112

“To find that the judge who scored that fight 116-112 gave Dmitry Bivol four rounds in that fight, this judge should not work in this fight again,” said Eddie Hearn on talkSport Boxing complaining about the judge who scored it 8-4. in favor of Artur Beterbiev against Dmitry Bivol. “There will have to be a rematch because there is always a dispute about this war.”
