More than 2 million children are being thrown away by Fisher-Price this week after five children reportedly died in their seats, according to the company’s regulators.
Fisher-Price and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced in a joint statement that Snuga Swings should never be used for sleeping and that bedding should never be added to the swing, either.
“If the product is used for sleeping or bedding is added, the headrest and body support pad may increase the risk of suffocation,” according to the recall notice posted Thursday.

The reinvented Snuga Swing is a front-to-back and side-to-side baby swing. It rotates 90 degrees with two rear positions and folds for storage, according to the notice.

All models of Fisher-Price Snuga Swings are affected by this recall. Snuga Swings were sold nationwide at Toys R Us, Walmart, Sam’s Club, and Target and online at Amazon between 2010 and January 2024.

Consumers need to “immediately” remove the headrest, which can be done by cutting the tether, and the body support insert from the seat pad, before continuing to use it for work, according to Fisher-Price and the CPSC.
Five deaths involving infants between 1 and 3 years of age were reported between 2012 and 2022. In many reported cases, children were “unrestrained and bedding was added to the product.”

Consumers should never use these sleepers or add items to them, even after removing the headrest and body support inserts, according to the notice.
In general, prone seating products, such as swings, gliders, soothers and rockers, should never be used for children’s sleep. Infants should also not be left in these products unattended, unrestrained or with bedding due to the risk of suffocation, the CPSC said.

About 2.1 million restored swings have been sold in the US since 2010. About 99,000 swings were sold in Canada and about 500 swings were sold in Mexico.
By 2022, the CPSC and Fisher-Price warn there will be more than a dozen report child deaths tied to Fisher-Price Infant-to-Toddler Rockers and Newborn-to-Toddler Rockers between 2009 and 2021.
The year before that, the company recalled two sleep rockers that were linked to the deaths of four infants.
