Most of us know him as the sweet Hughie from Prime Video Boysbut today Jack Quaid is the stuff of nightmares in the trailer of his upcoming film, A friend. Plays opposite Quaid Yellowjackets again The Boogeyman’s Sophie Thatcher, who, in the trailer, appears to be a prisoner of the Quaid.
Serving as a prelude to Drew Hancock’s feature-length feature, the first look shows viewers a a lot a different side of the Quaid.

In the opening seconds of the theater, while the Flamingos’ song “I Only Have Eyes for You” plays, we see the chef putting the final touches on the food before bringing it to the seated couple (Quaid, Thatcher).
The moment seems touching, with two lovebirds seen enjoying a cozy dinner at their home. But, as the camera pans to the chair where Thatcher is sitting, it is clear that A friend it will be anything but your next favorite rom-com.

That is because Thatcher is handcuffed to her seat. Every other trailer for A friend shows the not-so-happy couple in unpleasant situations, including a clip where Quaid holds him at gunpoint and another where he tries to break free from his captor by slamming his hand on a car door.
The caption ends up in flames as Thatcher’s entire arm is covered in a candle at the dinner table.
Jack Quaid and Sophie Thatcher aren’t the only familiar faces viewers will see A friend trailer like The White Lotus, Youagain Smile 2Lukas Gage pops up everywhere and seems to side with Quaid.
In the beginning, A friend was intended to be the next feature from filmmaker Zach Cregger, who burst onto the scene in 2022. A barbarian.
We also see Mustachioed friend Rupert (Hitman: Agent 47, Anatomy of a Scandal) grab the switchblade by the neck. He probably deserved it. Other actors incl What We Do in the Shadows‘ Harvey Guillén and I have never beenby Megan Suri.

Instead, Cregger will serve as producer, handing over the reins to Hancock who also wrote the script. Joining Cregger as producers are Raphael Margules and JD Lifshtiz with New Line Cinema, Vertigo Entertainment, and BoulderLight Pictures.
Zach Cregger fans needn’t worry as, though he may not be directing A frienda popular horror filmmaker is busy at work on a similarly unique project. Cregger’s follow-up production, WeaponsIt is scheduled to be released in early 2026 and will focus on thousands of lives intertwined in a small town in Florida.
Boasting an ensemble cast, the film will feature performances from Josh Brolin (External distance), Julia Garner (Apartment 7A), Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story), and more.
As for Jack Quaid, once A friendthe actor will (hopefully) soon return to Toronto to work with Eric Kripke and the rest of the team on the fifth and final season Boys. His name is also attached to the Dan Berk and Robert Olsen co-directed action thriller flick, Novocaineand comics by Ilya Naishuller, Heads of State.
