Mauritius will start legislative elections on November 10

Mauritius will hold its legislative elections on November 10, the Office of the President has announced. “In pursuance of the power given to him under section 41(1) of the Representation of the People Act and acting in accordance with the advice of the Honorable Prime Minister, the Honorable Mr. Prithvirajsing Roopun, the President of the Republic, today, issued the election documents, setting the date 22 October 2024 as the Day of the People’s Appointment, and the 10th day of November 2024 as the Day of Voting where necessary, “said the office of the President in a press release on Friday.

The presidency also announced the dissolution of the National Assembly on Friday, Xinhua news agency reported.

The National Assembly of Mauritius has a proportional system and consists of 70 members with a five-year term. Voters will nominate 62 members of the National Assembly and eight other “big losers” will be nominated to fill 70 seats.
