Delta Air Lines Cuts 2 Central Routes, Adds 2 West Coast Routes

Delta Air Lines is pulling non-stop service to two inter-American destinations from its Key West Coast Hub – but introducing two new routes for the summer months.

Beginning in early May, the Atlanta-based carrier will end regularly scheduled flights from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to both Guatemala City and San Salvador.

Meanwhile, Delta is backing down its West Coast flights for the summer months by bringing lax flights to Anchorage, Alaska, for the first time in several years. The airline will do the same in restoring service from Las Vegas to San Jose, California.

Delta Cuts 2 Lax Routes in Central America

Delta will end two flights from Los Angeles to El Salvador and Guatemala within the first few days of May, the executive confirmed this week.

Last Delta LAX does not stop at El Salvador International Airport (SAL) SASTS on May 4, with the last northbound flight returning a day later, on May 5.

The end of the carrier’s service between Southern California and Guatemala City’s La Aurora International Airport (Gua) will come a day later, with the last southbound flight on May 5 and the Old Northbound Flight on May 6.

“This aligns with this necessary change and supports the increase in domestic flights from Los Angeles,” said a spokesperson for the carrier in a statement on Friday.

It’s worth noting, LAX will still have a direct link to San Salvador and Guatemala City.

Alaska Airlines, Avianca, United and Veraris Costa RICA serve the lax-gua route, per cirium.

Delta itself will still serve both American destinations through the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) Hub.

DELTA’s new service to Alaska

On the flip side, Delta will launch service between Los Angeles and Alaska later this year.

Beginning May 24 (Saturday of Memorial Weekend) the Airline will begin weekly non-stop flights to Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC).

Delta will operate the flights with its boeing 737-900er, with 20 first class positions and 27 delta seats and seats.

This service will run on Aug. 30, Saturday of Labor Day Weekend.

Delta will compete directly on the route with Alaska Airlines.

The carrier last flew between lax and anchorage in 2021, cirium data shows.

Retrieving LAS-SJC

Finally, Delta will bring back daily daily service from Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas to Mineta International Airport (SJC) in San Jose, California, during the summer months.

Launching June 8, Delta will fly the route with an Embraer-Seather Embraer Regional Jet flying under Delta’s connection.

Delta maintained a regularly scheduled flight between the two cities in 2020, Cirium shows.

Several carriers already fly the route, including Alaska, Premium, Airline, United and Southeast Airlines.
