Tyra Banks Gets Bad Feelings as She Reveals Her LA Home Burned Down
Tyra Banks opens up about losing his home in Los Angeles.
The supermodel, 51, revealed on Monday, January 20, on the Australian breakfast show Sunrise that he is one of the celebrities whose house was burnt due to the wildfire that started on January 7.
Banks said he and his business partner Louis Belanger-Martinhe learned the sad news while in Australia, where he splits his time away from the US
“I lost my house,” the first America’s Next Top Model shared by the host. “I haven’t really discussed it, but, yes, I have. I just didn’t want to draw too much attention to myself. I feel like there are a lot of people who need that care, so I haven’t talked about it, but I can’t sit here and not talk about the fact that, yes, we lost our house.”
Banks continued, “We were at his friend’s house here and we were celebrating and having fun. I kept checking my phone, not mine, but friends and family, making sure they got through everything. Then I asked my partner, I said, ‘I see something here, what do you think?’ and he [nodded]. And I just put it together and I didn’t say anything to my friends and I just sat there, and then we went home and we cried and we had our time.
Banks noted that she and Bélanger-Martin split their time between Australia and New York, so most of her belongings are safe. “Most of those memento-mementos are here and in New York, so I didn’t lose that, thank you,” he said. “There are memories that we lost … it’s hard.”
Fueled by a powerful Santa Ana storm and dry conditions, the wildfires destroyed thousands of homes, displaced residents across Los Angeles, and killed at least 25 people. According to the The Associated Pressthe fires burned an area of 63 square kilometers.
The stars included Spencer Pratt again Heidi Montag, Paris Hilton again Billy Crystal they also lost their homes because of the fire.
“I didn’t know what to do,” Montag said Us Weekly Wednesday, January 15, talking about the moment he realized he and his family had to flee the wildfire that was burning in Pacific Palisades. “Nothing could have made up for that … you can’t wrap your head around it. I started packing things that made sense — I wasn’t thinking about anything else.”
Montag revealed that because of the panic, the first thing he did when he collected their lives was “the children’s things.” (The The hills alum and Pratt share children Gunnar, 7, and Ryker, 2.)
“I don’t have any pictures,” Montag said. “I have all these photo albums that I made for Spencer before there was Instagram and TikTok and the iPhone. These pictures [that] I won’t do it again. All these painful things are over, you know?”
