Locals are standing up to support the front lines fighting the wildfires in Southern California

More than 15,000 people are helping to fight the fires in Southern California. Workers came in from all over the country – even Mexico – to prevent further destruction. While they are holding it down in the front lines, others are now stepping up to enter.

It’s an all-hands-on-deck effort in Southern California. Two of the most devastating fires in the country’s history are burning an area larger than the entire city of San Francisco.

Fox was tagged along with a number of local people who have dedicated themselves to making this difficult time easier for the firefighters battling the blaze.

“We’ve been told that some of these firefighters drink five or six of this a day,” said Dylan Jones of the Santa Monica area.

Energy drinks are one of the things firefighters need as they deal directly with the flames.

Rosen and his friends grew up in the Palisades area. When the fire started, they received a message from their firefighter friend about what they needed beforehand.

“It’s crazy…it was just, ‘get this, this and this,’ again [the outreach] gone,” said Evan Rosen of the Santa Monica area.

So far, Rosen and his friends have raised about $10,000 to meet the needs of the firefighters.

He and his friends continue to make daily runs to local stores and restaurants to pick up lotions, sunscreen, pain relievers and hot meals for the rangers, firefighters, police, etc.

“We’re just trying to do our part, we’re trying to help them, we’re trying to help these firefighters out. I mean, a lot of people are devastated. It’s a tough time…but the community is coming together as a city,” said a Santa Monica resident. Ray Manicini.

Their efforts go far beyond Santa Monica. The power of social media has taken its appeal around the world.

“My cousin Aidan reshared one of my posts, and Venmo is not something they use in England, and they were all downloading apps. We had five or ten people sending money. I had friends from college come out to Portugal, saying, ‘hey, what can I do from afar?’ Jones said.

The group says it will continue as long as the community is willing to help. Recent applications from top lines include liquid IV, unscented Chapstick, sunscreen, energy drinks, facial wipes and hot, healthy foods.
