Stevenson: Schofield Will Get Out of the War
Shakur Stevenson is convinced that challenger Floyd Schofield may pull out of their fight on February 22, using the excuse that he’s dreaming and pulling out of the match.
WBC lightweight champion Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) says Team Schofield’s allegations that he has a spy in the camp to learn secrets, slashes tires, tarnishes his passport are signs that he is about to release it.
Shakur Predicts Exit
It’s not a good idea for Stevenson to keep talking about his unsubstantiated theory that Kid Austin is out of the fight because he’s talking down the game, and that will make the fans lose interest. He needs to talk about the fight and try to get the fans excited about it.
Schofield (18-0, 12 KOs) doesn’t seem nervous about Stevenson, though, and sounds confident that he’ll be able to take him down and put the stick on the slow-hitting champion. We don’t know how Shakur will strengthen the fight because he is coming out of surgery on his right hand, he was not using that hand last week in training.
“It seems to me that they are trying to get out of the war. They say, ‘You did all this,’ and then when they don’t show up to fight, it will be an excuse. They will try to blame me and say something I did. Some fake s*** that needs to be taken out of the fight,” Shakur Stevenson wrote to Cigar Talk about Floyd Schofield and his father.
“It’s not necessary. We’re partnering with Kid Austin. I have seen him fight. He’s going to throw a big, hard left hand,” Shakur said when asked about the claims made by Team Schofield that they believed Stevenson had spies trying to get information about their training methods.
“He is there [Schofield] I’ll switch, and throw a hard left hand up. He will throw a hard left hook. His right hand is not really s***. It is a science. Nothing new will happen. He won’t beat anyone else,” Shakur said.
It would be interesting to know if Shakur really believes that Schofield is trying to get out of the war, as that suggests that his beliefs are not based in reality. Stevenson is not a good judge of people, as it is clear that Kid Austin will not be out of the fight and he sees this as his biggest opportunity. The money is good, and it’s Floyd’s chance to become a star by winning.
Is Schofield Scared?
“I don’t need to do extracurricular s*** to take advantage of that. I think he is afraid, and I am beginning to fear that he may drop out of the war. I train the ** off, sign me, and you guys get out of the fight. That’s some b*** a** s*** bro,” said Shakur.
“I’m not even supposed to watch the tape [of Schofield]. I have seen him. I know what to expect,” Shakur said.
