The Marvel Cinematic Universe is huge, especially now that Disney+ includes parts of Fox’s X-Men and Fantastic Four, and even shows like The Legion again The giftedagain Morbius is part of the Spider-Verse collection. However, outside of the service, where no one can find it without looking directly at it, the one Marvel series that was cast on Freeform, formerly ABC Family, Cloak, and Dagger. Airing for two seasons, the series brought to life the adventures of teenage runaways (no, not runaways), Tandy and Tyrone, usually supporting characters of Spider-Man, but stuck in their own show without any connection to the MCU.
Super-Powered Teen Angst
In the series, Tandy and Tyrone are played by Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph, respectively, as the action moves from New York to New Orleans, and the drug-fueled origin story of the two famous comic book characters is replaced by an industrial accident. . Cloak and Dagger is one of the programs that may change the origin of its heroes because even in comics, these are always stuck in a supporting role and are not often given their own title.

The game relies heavily on the imagination of the youth, and takes advantage of the lack of any exciting stories featuring the heroes to create new ones as new characters outside of fan expectations. Freeform didn’t deliver Cloak and Dagger it’s a lot of budget to play with, but thankfully, the power of these cheap duos can be shown on screen as all you need is bright lights and deep darks. While the Disney + MCU shows look and feel like movies, the world of Tandy and Tyrone looks like this The Secret Life of American Youthif demons sometimes appeared. D’Spayre, a D-level Doctor Strange villain, plays a major role in the series on the side, as is New Orleans, Baron Samedi, the famous Vodou Ioa.
Exiled to Darkness
Cloak and Dagger spends its first season dealing with how the two found their powers and the trauma that binds them together, while the second season delves into them using their abilities to help change the world for the better. It doesn’t reach the heights of Netflix Daredevilbut each season is over 85 percent fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and has set a Freeform ratings record with over 7 million viewers. Critics praised the show for embracing dark, youth-oriented themes in a way that never insulted the target audience or came across as condescending.
Tyrone and Tandy have only appeared in one other Marvel show, the Hulu Original Those who run awayafter the end of Cloak and Dagger. It’s fitting, since both shows were pulled from Marvel’s landing page on Disney+, and the only evidence of them being in the MCU is their standalone crossover. Today, Cloak and Dagger is finally gaining more fans thanks to its inclusion in the free-to-play hit Marvel Rivalsbut without a new focus, we’ll never see them in the MCU.
