External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will represent India at the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States on January 20.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Sunday that Jaishankar will hold meetings with representatives of the incoming Trump administration during his visit to the US.
Trump had defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in the November presidential election.
Last month, Jaishankar said Trump had a positive political view of India and was in a better position than many other countries to build a “deeper” relationship with his administration and advance bilateral relations.
“At the invitation of the Trump-Vance Founding Committee, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar will represent the Government of India at the inauguration of President-Elect Donald J Trump as the 47th President of the United States of America,” the statement said. .
JD Vance will be the new Vice President of the United States.
“During this trip, the foreign minister will have meetings with representatives of the incoming administration, and other dignitaries who visited America on that occasion,” said the MEA statement.
There has been concern in many countries about the Trump administration’s policy on a number of critical issues including tariffs, climate change and foreign policy that has been prioritized against the backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the situation in West Asia.
This is the second time that Trump will be the President of the United States. He served as the 45th President of the US from January, 2017 to January 2021.
